The "SnoWest Spokane area Riders" were well represented today in the Cow Creek Meadows.  Our original group of 8 included Erik (Ragged), Corey, TriNitro-Terry and his brother Jim, Scott Flit and his daughter, Jon Boondockin', and myself.  Later in the day, we ran into Tim & his wife, Justus, Logan, and Mark Messenbrink.

Boondockin' Jon gets the "Wild Man Award" for the day with an unexpected creek crossing.  What do you do, at 40 mph, when an 8 ft. deep, 15 ft. wide, water-filled trench pops up on your radar directly off the nose?  You haul back on the bars and pin it!  Jon did exactly that, smacking into the bank on the opposite side, but with enough momentum and power-on to launch him and the sled (not necessarily as a singular entity ) back up out of the hole and onto the flat area on the opposite side of the creek.

Damage assessment: A bent steering post and a bruised leg.  Not bad for such an act of carnage.  The photo on the right does a poor job of showing you what happened.  The creek was probably 3 ft. below anything you can see in the photo.

Jon's return trip.

All's well that ends well, but Jon was still on the opposite side of the creek.  With a little help from the Hartbarger boys, who were also riding in the area, we found a spot about 1/2 mile upstream for Jon to make his return trip.

Scott's sled started acting up shortly after leaving the pickups.  Unfortunately, he was forced to pack it in early.  Sorry Scott, we'll have to try it again soon.

Mr. Ragged found himself looking down a very steep hillside for about 45 minutes while he shoveled himself a flat spot to drag his sled onto pointing back down the mountain.  In the meantime clouds rolled in and obscured the hillside so he was forced to finally come down "on instruments".  Everything went well and Erik and his sled eventually emerged from from the fog unscathed.

After the ride, the group converged on "Mugsy's" in beautiful downtown Bonners Ferry for dinner and a few barley pops.
