35mm scans from the good ole days...

I was going through some old 35mm photos this morning and ran across these.  Thought you guys might get a kick out of them.  I think these were taken in winter of '90, but not positive.  I'm using a cheapie HP Scanjet scanner so please pardon the quality.  Check out that snowpack!...

Pheobe.

I'm so sick of summer, I can hardly stand to look at this photo!  Check out the wussy sled tracks in the foreground.  No trenching there!

Here's a closeup of the chute.  No tracks up it!  I don't think anyone even thought it was possible back then.

My old sled

An '85 El-Tigre' 6000 AFS.  Powered by a "fire-breathing" 500cc liquid twin with a set of Erlindson Automotive twin pipes and cylinder mods.

This beast had to be jetted every 2500' or it simply would not run.  Claimed horsepower with the mods was supposed to be a whopping 95!  The sled had a nasty high pitched bark to it that could stand a greenie's hair on end from 5 miles a way. :)

AFS was Arctic Cat's buzzword of the era, meaning "A-Frame Suspension".  We thought it should have meant "Always F-in' Stuck".

If I remember correctly, I burned up a $60 belt getting that pig up onto this ridge where the picture was taken.

Check out that gnarly camera bag strapped down to the tank.  Also, that was a genuine "Pac-Rac" mounted on the back.  Yes, I was a packrat back then too!

I stripped 'er down to the tunnel one fall (and half of the winter) because of some loose rivets.  I got a little carried away and wound up going through the whole sled.  It emerged in about March with new paint on everything, new bearings & bushings throughout, reversed track, a kick-ass custom paintjob on the hood, and a set of sleeved and ported cylinders by TSE Cylinder Works in Kallispell.
